Our mission is to provide shelter and other services to homeless persons in San Luis Obispo County, with maximum self-reliance for each client served.Through the years, Transitional Food and Shelter has developed three primary programs to meet the mission statement.ShelterThe shelter program provides temporary, emergency shelter for medically fragile (disabled) homeless persons too ill, injured or disabled to be in a homeless shelter at night and outdoors during the day. Each client is screened and referred by a hospital or social service agency and has a doctor's letter. Some are terminally ill and receive visits from Hospice Partners. Some are totally and permanently disabled and need help to get SSI and subsidized housing. Some of our clients are temporarily disabled and get well. This program maintains 10 rented studio apartments located throughout San Luis Obispo County for temporary use by clients, and any overflow of clients are placed in motels.
